Deciding: Notebook or Netbook

So you are buying a computer and you can't decide which one to get; a netbook or a notebook.

Let us try to make things simple and discuss a few facts. I will not discuss a specific brand or model, just the general things you might need to know.

If you are a "newbie" and you need help in deciding which product to buy then I will tell you some of the tips i know to help you decide as well as the advantages and disadvantages of both systems(netbook/notebook).

Basically, A notebook and a netbook is a mobile computer device. A notebook is more similar to a desktop computer's capability, just add the mobility. while the netbook is stripped down to basic computer chores and very limited to basics. it is ideal only to people who demands less computing power.

Notebook's Advantages/Disadvantages:

1.) Computing power. Depending on the specifications, I couldn't think of anything that a high end notebook can do compared to a high end desktop PC. Play 3D games, blue rays, HD streaming, high fidelity audio and video compression. well, name it and a high end notebook will do it for you.

2.) Price. The saying goes; "You get what you paid for". This is 100% true and correct. While a high end notebook will be able to compute everything you want it to you may need to recalculate your budget because it can strip down your pocket. High end notebook models are really expensive and most of us are just dreaming of owning one. While the lower end models and older models tend to be cheaper, it's price and capabilities are more similar to a netbook.

3.) Size does matter. Older model notebooks uses LCDs and newer ones uses LEDs. The most notable difference of notebooks are the Display screen sizes (screen width are measured diagonally). Display screen sizes may vary, I've personally seen as large as 20 inches LED screen and a 13 inches LED screen for notebook computers. you can decide on what you need, well for me the larger display screen are better for viewing HD movies because i usually place my notebook at a 2-3 meter distance from me.

Netbooks Advatages/Disadvantages:

1.) Mobility and space. Although notebooks can also be mobile, it just cannot beat the netbook on mobility because of it's smaller specifications. you can save space by just placing a small netbook on your school bag fit for your convenience.

2.) Demanding capability over mobility. A netbook is capable of playing most media files such as audio and video but may be limited by it's specification to play high definition videos. It is also capable of playing games but may not be able to play extensive-hardware-hungry 3D games. Netbooks may require external DVD/CD reader as well as card readers. while notebooks comes with internal DVD/CD reader or widely known as the optical drive.

3.) Price. The trend is that "the more expensive, the better" this maybe true, yes. But it all depends on the specifications. Netbooks are priced cheaper than notebooks due to it's stripped-down capabilities. Depending on it's specification, there maybe netbook models that has the same hardware content as it's notebook counter part and the deal is that netbooks may be cheaper, when this happens you may opt to buy a cheaper netbook over the notebook, an advantage in price. Think of it's price-for-use criteria, if you would only use a computer on basic task like surfing the net, checking emails, playing audio and videos and a you're not much into gaming. then a netbook suits you.

Final thoughts, follow your heart. escape the dilemma by choosing what you believe is right for you. you can search the internet for tips similar to mine and ask people on which product is better but ultimately, As the end user. it is for you to decide.
